Q.1 Q.2 Q.3 Q.4 Q.5 Q.6 Q.7 Q.8 Q.9 Q.10

Q.1

Read the passage and answer the question:

In Malaysia, the elephant is a symbol of conservation. Due to rampant development, it is virtually impossible for them to roam without encroaching on plantations, estates and villages. In this context, elephants are considered a nuisance. This is where the translocation team comes in. The centre is often called to relocate elephants from unwelcome territories to national parks. Wild elephants can be dangerous if threatened. The centre's elephants are brought along to give moral support to the wild ones who are frightened, angry, and confused at being captured and chained. Two working elephants flank a single wild elephant, touching it with their trunk, providing comfort and calm in a slow and delicate process.
Knowledge is crucial to create awareness, especially among the uneducated general public. Usually, it is not elephants that trespass into human territory. Rather, humans are the ones encroaching on elephant territory. The centre has noble goals but lacks ample funds to realise its vision. The objective is clear, but the process is slow. We may all have to do what we can to help.

According to the passage, what is the threat that makes wild elephants dangerous?

Q.8

Read the composition and answer the question:

The Kingdom of Spain was created in 1492 with the unification of the Kingdom of Castile and the Kingdom of Aragon. For the next three centuries, Spain was the most important colonial power in the world. It was the most powerful state in Europe and the foremost global power during the 16th century and the greater part of the 17th century. Spain established a vast empire in the Americas, stretching from California to Patagonia, and colonies in the western Pacific.
Spain’s European wars, however, led to economic damage, and the latter part of the 17th century saw a gradual decline of power under an increasingly neglectful and inept Habsburg regime. The decline culminated in the War of the Spanish Succession, where Spain’s decline from the position of a leading Western power to that of a secondary one was confirmed, although it remained the leading colonial power.
The eighteenth century saw a new dynasty, the Bourbons, which directed considerable effort towards the institutional renewal of the state, with some success, peaking in a successful involvement in the American War of Independence.

Which century saw a new dynasty?

Q.9

Read the passage and fill in the blank:

In the desert region, you can find a plant known as the cactus. Usually, these plants are grown in a very hot and dry place. These plants don't have leaves; instead, they have spiny needles which stick out of their stems. They grow in many shapes; some are small and round, while others are tall like columns or pillars. They also grow as trees or shrubs, while others grow by covering the ground. The flowers which grow on cacti are big in size, and most of them bloom at night. The reason why the flower blossoms during the night is that the insects or small animals which come out at night carry pollen from one cactus to another. Most cacti are found in North and South America. Others are found in North Africa, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka. They have small leaves, and avoid the water to stay within the leaves. The water inside the leaves evaporates as it changes its state from liquid to gas. As water becomes a gas, it is light enough to move through the air, which in turn is bad for the cactus because the cactus needs water to live. To prevent the water from running down the stem, some cacti have waxy coatings. Also, they absorb water from fog in the air, as it does not rain very much in the desert.

The cacti are grown in __________________________________.
